Some horse names in Horses of Hoofprint Bay change how the horse looks. According to the community wiki, naming a horse after one of 38 horses from Mein Pferdehof (My Horse Farm), such as Summerrain, Baghira, Samurai, Daydream, or Pandora, switches it to that game’s colour palette; renaming it reverses the effect. There is no custom horse creator, but colour presets can recolour every horse in your save, even into rainbow horses.
The secret Mein Pferdehof names#
The community wiki describes this as an Easter egg: horses named after one of 38 horses from Mein Pferdehof switch to the MPH colour palette. The list is: Eclipse, Casiopaya, Trinity, Wisper, Destiny, Daydream, BlackBeauty, Cher, Abra, Bienchen, Eco, Pandora, Baghira, Jackie, Dinarsad, Chantal, Golden Echo, Eleonora, Dutchess, Ramona, Britney, Escandalo, Terentino, Justus, Acapulco, Capuchino, Abony, Aberkan, Dahooka, Bijou, Bajadere, Tulipan, Godewind, Salinero, Summerrain, Windhauch, Samurai, Jungle Prince. Players on the Steam forum have confirmed Summerrain, Baghira, Samurai, Daydream, and Pandora.
The effect depends on the base colour#
A player who tested several names on the same horse found that the names give the same tint, and the result depends on the horse’s base colour: a grey turns yellowish with a pinkish mane and tail, and a chestnut turns deep red. Renaming the horse brings its normal colours back.
Colour presets#
The horse colour settings offer the presets Default, MPH, and Rainbow, and you can save your own. Changing the preset recolours all horses in the save. The Steam store also lists colour alternatives among the accessibility features.
No custom horse creator or combined patterns#
There is no option to design a horse from scratch. Breeding is the way to a particular look, but players note that a foal inherits either the father’s or the mother’s coat and mane, so two white patterns such as tobiano and appaloosa do not combine.
No head markings#
White face markings are not in the game. A player quotes the developers explaining that the colour layout is deformed to match each pose, which breaks markings when the horse turns its head.
