Feeding and care quirks#

Easy Keeper needs less grain and Hard Keeper needs more; one guide measures this at about 10 body condition gained or lost per day. Neat Freak gets dirty less often and Mud Lover more often. Snacky gains more confidence from treats, and Cuddly gains more from scritches on its favourite spot.

Health quirks#

Sure Footed horses get injured less and Injury Prone horses more, even with the fields closed. Walkthrough Forge reports daily injury odds with the fields open of about 10% for a normal horse, 3% for Sure Footed (abrasions only), and 20% for Injury Prone.

Breeding traits#

Good Mom (mares only) gives her foals better starting confidence, strength, and endurance; these are current values, not potential. Good Inheritance raises a foal’s potential and Bad Inheritance lowers it; Walkthrough Forge puts the effect at 2 points and says Bad Inheritance never appears on geldings.

Riding temperament#

Rebellious horses change gait on their own even at full confidence. Energetic horses do the same, always try to speed up, and need more exercise to avoid becoming explosive. Chill horses try to slow down and need less exercise. A horse has at most one of these three.

Opposites and inheritance#

Some traits exclude each other: Easy and Hard Keeper, Neat Freak and Mud Lover, Sure Footed and Injury Prone, Good and Bad Inheritance. According to the community wiki, inheritable traits come from the dam or the sire, and only one trait of an opposing pair is passed on. Sources differ on exactly which traits are inheritable, so check the in-game Traits and Quirks book.

How to reveal traits#

Some traits are already visible when you buy a horse; check Horse Info in its folder. The vet test reveals the testable ones, which Walkthrough Forge lists as Easy and Hard Keeper, Sure Footed and Injury Prone, and Good and Bad Inheritance. Others appear through play: Snacky when you feed treats, Cuddly when you scritch, Neat Freak or Mud Lover after a few days at your yard, Good Mom when her foal becomes a yearling, Good or Bad Inheritance when a foal is born above or below its expected potential, Energetic or Chill after any ride over 30 seconds, and Rebellious after a ride over 30 seconds at full confidence.
