Jumping tips

Jump timing for verticals, oxers, and water jumps, plus jump markers and auto-jump for hard competitions.

THE QUICK ANSWER

Jump timing depends on the obstacle and speed. For verticals, approach slower and jump closer to gain height. For oxers, jump earlier to carry momentum. The water jump is the widest and needs more speed. At a gallop, take off earlier than at a canter. If it is still too hard, turn on jump markers or auto-jump in the settings.

Timing by obstacle#

Players share these rules of thumb: verticals need height, so jump slower and closer to the obstacle; oxers need width, so jump earlier; the water jump is the widest and needs more speed. A simple starting point: at a canter, take off from a distance roughly equal to the jump’s height.

Speed changes the take-off point#

The faster the horse, the further away you need to jump. At a canter you can be fairly close; at a gallop, jump earlier.

Practice with jump markers#

The settings include optional jump markers. Players note they only appear in training, not in competitions, but they help you learn the take-off points. Upgrading the practice ring gives more practice.

Auto-jump#

The accessibility settings include auto-jump. You still have to manage speed and strength, but not the precise timing.

Competition pacing#

Players report that faults cost 4 penalty points and time penalties add 1 point per 4 seconds over the limit. Keep a canter or gallop to make the time, but do not exhaust the horse too early. Strength runs out faster when the horse’s endurance is low.

Caprilli timing#

In the Caprilli test, switch gaits roughly when the rider’s foot is above the line between the two gait instructions.

What still needs verification

Research note

Penalty values and timing come from player reports and need in-game verification.
